What makes the camera snap photos?
Since almost everyone in this era are using digital cameras and SLRs, it just hit me recently - How does the camera function to shoot/snap a photo? Is it just the lens? What about it's internal parts?

In an old fashioned film camera, light comes in the front of the camera, through a lens, forming a projected image of whatever the camera's pointing at. This image is focused on a flat piece of photosensitive film, recording it.
In a digital camera the process is the same. But instead of a flat piece of film, there's a flat electronic component. The surface of it is photo sensitive. It transforms the image focused on it into electrical signals, which are coded and stored in the camera's memory.
