Hasselblad EL/M help please student!!!!?
Hi everyone , well im getting into film photography as i feel it is an essential part of being a successful photographer and im just intrigued about all aspects of it anyways.
Anyways i was wanting a film camera to take photographs on, and knowing me i try to get the best i can afford.
but as a going to be student im unsure wether its worth getting this camera.
well i have found a hasselblad 500 EL/M for below 500 quid, secondhand with a 60 mm lens and back , WLF
so i am just wondering what is this camera like, is it a waist of money, should i get a mamiya, or a 35mm
anything would be of help
i just thought its a hasselblad , how could i go wrong as they are normally very expensive
but anything you can say about this camera, the quality everything

While the motor drive Hasselblad is interesting, in the years I owned mine, I rarely used it. When I did use it, I added a remote control and used it to photograph wildlife using an elaborate pre-focused, pre-framed area to capture various animals.
The 60 mm is a little wide, but not wide enough to write home about so might not be a combination you will use much, especially with that heavy motor hanging under the camera.
If you can find a 500C with a couple of A12, 120 backs and the normal Planar CF /2,8-80 mm lens, you may find it more practical. The same holds true if you find a Mamya 645 or 67 camera and lens.
Now for more practical information.
While using a medium format camera system can produce some excellent images, most commercial photographers shoot about 80% or more of their assignments using digital cameras.
Based upon this, you may find buying a Nikon or Canon 35 mm SLR with standard lens will later allow you to add a DSLR body to the system you have started while in school. The savings you will enjoy can be used later to invest in more lenses.
